One of my New Years resolutions is to exercise for thirty minutes at least three times a week. Many of you are probably aware that exercise and physical activity can decrease your risk of breast cancer. Just out of curiosity, how many of you are aware of the fact that exercising during breast cancer treatment is beneficial?
Conventional treatments of breast cancer are chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. However, researchers have recently began prescribing supervised exercise regimens during chemotherapy. According to Dr. Courneya from the University of Alberta, exercising during chemotherapy results in a “lower recurrence of the disease and longer survival”.
Now, many of you are probably wondering which exercise or exercises are the most beneficial. Interestingly, patients who “did more aerobic exercises did better” as they experienced less pain and greater overall function.
Wishing you all the “breast,”
