Youth Advisory Council Edmonton member, Connie, is passionate about volunteerism. She wants you to know why raising awareness bout breast cancer is important to her and why it should be to you too.

“I volunteer for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation because breast cancer is universal. Nearly everyone knows or will know someone with breast cancer; I know a few myself, but it’s not just about the personal connection. Breast cancer affects people both locally and globally, young and old, men and women. There is general awareness of breast cancer but we need to go further, to inspire others to take action and ownership of their own health. As youth, while we are statistically less likely to get breast cancer, becoming aware of the risks and importance of early detection allows us not only to prepare for the future, but to look out for those around us, including our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbours and teachers. Youth can play a vital role in creating a future without breast cancer.”
