Batting Against Breast Cancer is a Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Prairies/NWT Region(CBCF) slo-pitch tournament that takes place across the Prairies/NWT Region in the following cities; Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Calgary, Red Deer, Regina and Winnipeg. We here at CBCF are now in “full swing” (pun intended) in planning this super fun community event. Interested in supporting CBCF and cheering on your local teams? Read on!
Batting Against Breast Cancer, or BABC for short, kicked off in Edmonton for the very first time back in 2004. Since it started it has raised over $2.2 million dollars towards a future without breast cancer. It now takes place in six cities across the region and has become our signature summer event.
BABC teams typically range from corporate sponsors to CBCF supporters, recreational and competitive leagues! Event day is a lot of fun with each site featuring different forms of entertainment and community engagement programs.
For example, BABC Edmonton will host an official Brave the Shave on-site on event day. Brave the Shave is a CBCF fundraising initiative where the participants raise funds with the end result being a shaved head. The “shave” is both shocking and heartwarming, and is quite the sacrifice. Like really, could you imagine shaving your head? It’s kind of a big deal.
BABC Winnipeg will feature a Dugout area where teams can relax, unwind and channel their inner songstress. There will be masseuses on-site, yoga sessions and karaoke running throughout the day.
Across the region, each site will host a free pancake breakfast for participants (FULL “brecky” in Grande Prairie) and hand out prizing for team participation. The award for Best Dressed team has always been a tournament favourite, and has resulted in some pretty outrageous team outfits. But really, what’s better than playing dress up with a group of your friends/coworkers?!
Whether you’re a participant playing on a team, a volunteer lending a helping hand, or a spectator cheering on from the stands Batting Against Breast Cancer has something for everyone! We’d love to see our YAC members come out on event day. For more information on BABC in your city visit: http://www.cbcf.org/battingagainstbc
