When we all come together, cancer doesn’t stand a chance.
It’s no secret that in our pop culture obsessed society, having the support of celebrities can work wonders for your cause…
The organizers of Stand up to Cancer use this logic to their advantage by compiling a star-studded cast for a one-hour primetime, commercial-free televised “telethon-esque” special in support of cancer research. First airing in 2008, Stand up to Cancer’s live broadcast takes place in Los Angeles, and features performances from top recording artists and cameos of celebrities from film and television.
To date, SU2C has raised over $260 million towards cancer research initiatives (it’s kind of a big deal!).
On July 9th, SU2C announced that it will be expanding into the Canadian market in 2014.
On September 5th Canadians will be able to view and take part in this popular fundraising event as it will air on CBC, Citytv, CTV and Global. This means that all donations received from the Canadian public during the show will go towards funding cancer research right here in Canada.
We are pleased to say that the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is on the list of affiliated organizations!
How can you get involved?
During the broadcast, you will have the opportunity to chat with celebrities via social media. Viewers will be able to donate via a toll-free number, standup2cancer.org and text-to-give. One hundred percent of the donations received from the public during the show go to support collaborative cancer research programs, education and awareness.
The show will feature interesting and innovative cancer research related information relayed by the celebrity guests. The celebrity roster for this year has yet to be released, but examples of past participants include: Jennifer Aniston, Mariah Carey, Halle Berry, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Jack Black, Coldplay, Kirsten Dunst, Jimmy Fallon, Scarlett Johansson, Rihanna, Julia Roberts, Seth Rogen, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, and many more!
On Friday, September 5th get a group of friends together, tune in to Stand up to Cancer to see your favourite celebrities and help us create a future without breast cancer.
